Sue Philbin

Senior Associate

Sue has over 24 year’s transport planning and Travel Demand Management (TDM) international experience (UK, Dubai, Australia and NZ). She has wide-ranging transport planning skills that complement her TDM expertise. These include: accident investigation and prevention, road safety audit, shared space and pedestrianisation assessments, child road safety education, walking & cycling studies, parking studies and TDM Strategy, Policy and Implementation Plans. She has also lectured at Universities and presented TDM courses and most recently advised the New Zealand Transport Agency on the development of a TDM Programme for New Zealand.

Sue has experience in the public and private sector including managing a team of TDM planners tasked with reducing congestion in Auckland whilst encouraging and promoting greater uptake of alternative modes of transport to the private car. In this role she developed the Auckland TDM rolling programme of interventions which reduced car use and associated CO2 emissions.

She was instrumental in bringing to NZ the Smart Travel carpooling app in association with Greater Wellington Council. This nationwide app was used by commuters and the general public across the country to find carpool partners.

She has a thorough understanding and insight into why implementing TDM plans makes good business sense in terms of cost benefits, CO2 emission reductions and the health benefits for participants. The implementation of a TDM plan can also assist an organisation to achieve ISO 14001 Environmental Systems Accreditation, Green Building Standards and demonstrates sound corporate responsibility.
